Chapter 1 Detention for a Week...make that Two
It was morning, just before her students filed into class. Luka stood tall; she brushed a crease from the front of her skirt and checks her blouse to make sure it was tidy. She brushed her long pink hair behind her shoulder just as the bell rang. The students entered, among them was Hatsune Miku. Luka admired her student above all others. She watched her walk gracefully, poised.
Miku laughed as she walked into the class with Miki beside her. Her long blue hair was in her usual high pigtails, tied with two black ribbons; her cheeks glowed as usual when she smiled and laughed. She parted with Miki as she walked to the back of the class to her seat as she sat at the front of the class, putting her text books down gently. She opened the correct books once she was seated and waited for the class to start.
"Good morning class." Luka's distinguished voice said. She took place in front of the class. Her gaze as she walked seemed to always stay to the front of the class, watching Miku.
"Open your books and we will start reading."
"Good morning, Megurune-Sense," the class said in unison - Miku's smile shining bright, distracting Luka like always.
Almost in unison, the class opened their text books to the page they were on - a few of them taking notes, Miku being one of them.
As time went on as the class read in silence - a few students listening to music...okay, all of them were listening to music - Miku started to hum and write down music lyrics instead of reading or taking notes.
Luka, seeing as she was watching the girl at a near constant, was headed to the girls desk now from the other side of the room. She loved that Miku was unfocused; any excuse to speak to her student was a good one.
Luka tapped the desk and held an unimpressed expression across her face, under it all though feeling a joy.
The blue pigtailed girl didn't notice that her sense was tapping on her desk - she continued to hum, and gently moved her head with the beat as she also continued to write down lyrics. Her hand flowed on her note paper - the first verse and course already written down. Then her left pigtail fell over her shoulder and landed on her desk, over Luka's hand. Luka pulled her hand away quickly, hitting the girl's shoulder as she did, when the hair gently fell across it. Her checks turned a rose pink color and her look of disappointment morphed into one of embarrassment.
Miku quickly pulled out her ear buds and say up straight, looking forward - knowing that she was in trouble.
"Hatsune-san," Luka cleared her throat "May I ask you what you are doing?" she tried to stand tall and look professional.
"I was reading the material, Sense," it was partially true. She was reading the material, but got distracted and started writing a song - like she did often.
"And the lyrics on your page?" Luke crossed her arms and tapped her foot.
"I...uhh..." her student tried to find a good excuse, but got none and dropped her head in defeat, looking at the page she was writing on."I got distracted, ma'am. Sorry."
Luka took the page of lyrics from Miku's desk "Get back to work Hatsune-san, we will talk more after class."
Luka left her students desk and returned to hers. She folded the paper with the written lyrics and shoved them into a draw at the top of her desk. She would look at it later, in awe and amazement and admire the beautiful writing from Miku's hand.
Miku sighed heavily and plugged herself back into her music player and read the material - getting distracted only a few times, just not as bad as before.
The bell rang for class to end and students were quickly leaving for their next class. Once the last student had passed through the door, Luka shut it and turned to face Miku who waited quietly for her.
Miku sat at her desk - everything in her bag - her head hanging.
"Hatsune-san." Luka's voice filled the silence "Would you like to explain why a studious and honours student like you would let yourself get distracted?" This situation; the teacher scolding the student; it was a scenario Luka had played in her head many times...many times.
"I'm sorry, Megurune-Sense. I have a song on my music player - instamental - I had help putting it together -- it just needed lyrics," she began to explain quickly, trying not to get interrupted. "And I got them in my head," she looked up at her sense, not too sure how to take the whole situation - she's never been in trouble before. "I just wanted to get them down before I forgot them."
Luka walked closer to Miku. She stared down the girl, just playing out different endings to this scene in her head. "And you choose to do this during my class, when I give you work?"
Miku opened her mouth to say something, then closed it - lowering her head again, her eyes wondering elsewhere. "Yes - sorry," she mumbled.
"Now..." Luka's voice sounded strained "How are you going to make up the minutes you waste in my class?"
Miku took a deep breath and exhaled with, "I don't know..."
"You will help me, after school." Luka said, quickly, almost too quickly. "For a week."
"How long?" Miku asked, not catching the last part.
Luke took in a deep breath "Still not listening, you're being very...disrespectful." Luka tried hard to keep things sounding professional "Two weeks now."
"Wait, what? Two weeks?" Miku stood from her desk. "But you were talking fast - I didn't catch what you said before!" she started to whine. "This is unfair!"
"You're going to argue with me now? Very unlike you Hatsune-san," Luka's voice stayed even, calm, and authoritive.
Miku sat back down in her seat with a heavy sigh. "Sorry, sense..."
Luka smiled behind Miku's back. "No complaining, please now go to your next class."
"Yes, ma'am." With that, Miku picked up her book bag and left Luka's class.
As the final bell rang, the kids rushed out of the school - teachers staying behind, along with some students - those who got in trouble, like Miku and others who just like to kiss up to teachers. With kids leaving, Miku headed to Luka's class.
To be continued...
